Hello, my name is Kevin Franchek and I am the owner/operator of High Country Design. I have lived in Northern Michigan for nearly all of my life although have also enjoyed Florida and North Carolina. After earning my B.S. in Psychology with a minor in Business Administration from East Carolina University in North Carolina, I returned to my "homeland." Iīve held a variety of positions during my years of employment but have finally "found my bliss" in working for myself and doing something I love.
My initial experience with computers was with a Burroughs "mini" computer that was about the size of my first car. I wrote in COBOL and actually used punch cards to store and run the applications. Yes, punch cards did exist, they were thick paper cards with square holes punched through them. You loaded a stack into the card reader and it would eat them up and spit them back out. If you were lucky, none were rejected or mutilated. If you were unlucky, you dropped a stack and had to sort out hundreds of cards. Ahh, the good old days of 1983.
Things sure have changed, thankfully. The modern computer is so much more accessible and less tedious to use. Even with the occasional or sometimes frequent "crash" I still seem to take pleasure in working with the technology. I especially enjoy doing the "neat" stuff--animated gifs, hidden areas, fly-ins, rollovers, and the like. Iīm really excited about my work with panoramas. You can view some sampe panoramas via the link at the left and also at my Luxury Home Tours site. Another area Iīm psyched about is "Flash." Flash is the cutting edge standard for animation on the web and can produce some really wonderful effects. Iīll be doing quite a bit more with that in the near future.
