Like anywhere, success on the Web is dependent on letting your market know where you're at and what you offer. There are a number of ways to go about this depending on your goals and budget.

  • The foundation of any Internet marketing campaign is getting listed with the various search engines. Understanding how the search engines work is essential not just when submitting your site but in the design phase as well.
  • Banner Exchanges are an excellent way of generating traffic.  Swap your banner with another site owner.  Naturally you want to trade with sites that would appeal to your target audience without being in direct competition with your own web pages.
  • Another possibility is listing your site with various Internet classified ads and auctions.  These are an excellent way of promoting your site and making a profit at the same time.
  • Bulletin boards and Internet clubs are an option.
  • Let's get real. There are a number of real-world ways of promoting your site.  Of course the heavy hitter is television.  You have probably noticed that the "dot coms" dominated the T.V. ads this holiday season.  There is no better way of generating HUGE amounts of traffic than television ads (in fact, if you plan to run a T.V. ad you better get with your site host beforehand to prepare for the additional load).  The benefits are obvious but in many cases the cost is prohibitive. Then there are the other media.  Radio, newspaper, and magazine ads can all produce good results.  However, in most cases you're not going to place an ad just to promote your site. Typically you would already be using one or all of these media to promote your existing business, and would then include reference to your web site in your current ads.
  • Update all your existing company info to include your site. Don't place an ad without your www on it. Don't hand out a business card without it. Many small local newspapers have an area for local web-merchants, use them. Get some bumper-stickers printed.  Use the signature option of your e-mail to refer to your site.

I design your site to be "search friendly" and will  submit it once to the major search engines for you.  After the initial submission which is included in my design/hosting package, additional submissions are $20.00 per session.  A session includes submission to AltaVista, Lycos, HotBot, Excite, WebCrawler, C4, Go.com, Google, Netscape.

The maximum frequency of submission is once per month. More often than that and you risk being booted off the engine for "spamming."

If you feel it essential to rank highly in search engine listings it may be necessary to construct a page(s) specifically for that purpose.  This involves in-depth key word research targeted towards specific search engines as well as additional design considerations.  It can be a lengthy process.  The minimum base price for this service is $300.00 and can increase significantly depending on the effort required. I make no guarantees as to where youŽll rank in the search listings. There are also many online services which, for a fee, claim to be able to guarantee a high search ranking.

Getting visitors is only half the battle, your content is what will bring them back. Site "stickiness" can be critical in the success of your online presence.  "Stickiness" is a measure of how well your pages retain visitors.  You must provide content that will keep your guests interested and  likely to return. Having a "telephone listing" web site serves it's purpose but doesn't do much to promote a return visit and certainly does not take advantage of what the Web has to offer.

I can help in developing a spiral marketing approach to your site that will promote return visits and repeat customers.
